If somebody repeatedly hurts you, or verbally abuses you, that’s bullying. Bullying is intentional behaviour that hurts someone else. It includes name calling, hitting, pushing, spreading rumours, threatening or undermining someone (NSPCC).

Any person can be bullied for any reason. If a person is seen as different in some way or seen as an easy target they can be more at risk.

This might be because of their:
  • race or ethnic background
  • religion
  • body shape or size
  • gender
  • sexual orientation.

Bullying is serious and can have long-term effects on a person’s mental health and wellbeing.

If you are experiencing bullying, either at university or outside of university, you are able to access support from the university Wellbeing Team.
